Security and privacy

Patient data is sensitive. Here is how we protect it, and plainly what we can and cannot reach.

Encryption on your computer

The clinic database is encrypted (SQLCipher) on every computer. Anyone who takes the file without the key reads nothing.

Sync

When more than one computer is linked, changes pass through a relay server as encrypted data only. The relay cannot read them during sync.

Key recovery

So that your data can be recovered if you lose your computers, we keep a copy of the clinic key, encrypted with a separate key held in our server settings. This means ByteDent can technically access the data for recovery purposes. The key is released only to the owner after signing in (and the authenticator code, if enabled); every release is logged and e-mailed to the owner.

Doctors' schedule on the phone

The doctors' page shows an encrypted schedule. ByteDent can technically read this schedule, because its key is kept on our side so that a doctor can open it with just an e-mail and a password.

Diagnostic reports

Completely optional, and they contain no patient data.
